Reported Checkpoint Details
The Monterey Park Police Department has announced DUI patrols for November 3, 2026, from 4 p.m. to midnight, with officers focusing on identifying drivers suspected of operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police Chief Scott Wiese emphasized that impaired driving is preventable and encouraged motorists to arrange for a sober driver or use alternative transportation if they have consumed alcohol or substances that may affect their ability to drive. The department also reminds drivers that certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can impair driving, and operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, even where its use is permitted by law. A first-time DUI conviction can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver's license. The enforcement program is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
